چکیده

Because there are numerous gray areas in code assignment, it can be difficult to define a single notion of correctness in medical coding. Beyond coding guidelines that may not be fully determinate, the desired outputs for a computer-assisted coding (CAC) system can vary depending on the consumer of the technology, the payer, the date of service, and other factors. Nonetheless, CAC systems need a welldefined basis for evaluating their own correctness in order to avoid presenting subpar coding results as trustworthy. In this paper, we present a solution to that problem.

A microcosm of the health care 'system'.

One way to help a lay person understand the mess we’re in is to start by handing him or her this issue of Family Practice Management and pointing to “CPT Update for 2011: Immunizations, Observations and More,” on page 5. The article, by Cindy Hughes, CPC, is not an indictment of the system; rather, it’s just a concise and cogent explanation of some changes in CPT for the coming year. But imagin...

Gallium‐68 DOTATATE Production with Automated PET Radiopharmaceutical Synthesis System: A Three Year Experience

Objective(s): Gallium‐68 (Ga‐68) is an ideal research and hospital‐based PET radioisotope. Currently, the main form of Ga‐68 radiopharmaceutical that is being synthesised in‐house is Ga‐68 conjugated with DOTA based derivatives. The development of automated synthesis systems has increased the reliability, reproducibility and safety of radiopharmaceutical productions. Here we report on our three...

Monte Carlo Simulation to Compare Markovian and Neural Network Models for Reliability Assessment in Multiple AGV Manufacturing System

We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...

Meeting the Challenge of the “Know-Do” Gap; Comment on “CIHR Health System Impact Fellows: Reflections on ‘Driving Change’ Within the Health System”

Bridging the ‘know-do’ gap is not new but considerably greater attention is being focused on the issue as governments and research funders seek to demonstrate value for money and impact on policy and practice. Initiatives like the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Health System Impact (HSI) Fellowship are therefore both timely and welcome. However, they conf...

Diversity, Stability, and Ecosystem Function

One pervasive idea in a lot of ecosystem management has been that the more diverse an ecosystem is, the more stable it will be. I should point out right now that even though I’ll be raising some substantial doubts about simple formulations of this belief and how useful it is for conservation purposes, it’s not an unreasonable notion. It was, after all, first formalized This is, of course, an as...
